Hi I'm Mya!
I am a Master’s level Expressive Arts Therapist, Psychotherapist and Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with over 14 years experience in supporting community through mental health services, outreach and wellness. I am incredibly passionate about creating accessible therapeutic spaces that are inclusive and accessible for people of all cultures, abilities, gender identities and expressions, and offer services that are trauma-informed, strength based, harm reductive and client-centered, creating a safe frame for clients to explore the issues arising from Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, OCD, chronic pain, grief, complex trauma, personality disorders, dissociative identity disorder, ritual abuse, plurality and complex trauma.
I am also a settler and uninvited guest on the territories that I occupy, and my ancestral lineages come from the Scottish Highlands, the Germanic Lowlands, the Nordic seas and the Irish islands. I live and practice on the traditional, stolen, unceded, ancestral territories of the of kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikewtlem), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Stó:lō, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations, and have great reverence for the teachings and medicines of these lands. In this, I strive to continually be doing the work of unlearning and unpacking my own internalized oppressions, understanding the harm that whiteness and colonialism has caused and continues to cause to People of Culture here and around the world, grounding into the wisdom of my own ancestors and their traditional pre-colonial, land-based practices, and continuing to heal, grow and hold space for folks as we navigate the way forward together, in kinship.
As a Neurodiverse member of the 2SLGBTQ2AI+ community, I offer supportive services for gender diverse and neurodiverse children, youth and adults, including support and resources for parents of gender diverse and neurodiverse children and teens. I also work in Family Preservation, supporting families in healing from the impacts of colonialism, exploitation, marginality, systemic racism and oppression, and intergenerational trauma. All of my services are sex worker inclusive, and offered in English and Spanish.
My methods are rooted in Arts-based, Somatic and ceremonial modalities, weaving artistic expression into the therapeutic process to hold difficult issues and allow for transformation and growth. I also work with CBT, DBT, mindfulness, Internal Family Systems and Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy
In the mystical and ancestral realm, I am a trained and initiated Traditional Animist Spirit Worker. Since 2015, I have had the absolute blessing to be a student, apprentice and now initiated member of the Tradition of Spirit Healers and Mystics, an ancestral Animist lineage taught and held in community by Nikiah Seeds. This work includes hundreds of in-person hours, hands on experience, ritual and ceremony, and is deeply rooted in personal ancestral healing practices. This work changed my life, and continues to nourish and ground me so that I may walk in a better way as an uninvited guest and occupier on Indigenous land.
To this work, I bring sensitivity, compassion, care, and a keen desire to support every person in finding a way forward towards their own personal healing path and wholeness.
