Counselling

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a collaborative relationship between client and Counsellor, in which a container of support is created to identify, hold space for, and ultimately transform difficult emotions and feelings. In the therapeutic relationship, the Client is the expert of their own life, and the Counsellor steps in as a guide, offering strategies and reflection for the Client to identify and strengthen their own inner resources. The hope in Counselling is for the Client to have an experience in which they feel heard, validated, understood and cared for, which may result in improved coping skills, strengthened self esteem, clearer and more compassionate communication, healthy boundaries and personal autonomy.
Counselling is offered to individuals, couples, families, youth and children, with specific services for gender diverse persons and their families.
Expressive Arts Therapy

What is Expressive Arts Therapy?

Expressive Arts Therapy is the use of various art modalities, including creative writing, painting, movement, sculpting, music, psychodrama, drawing and dance as containers to hold and transform trauma. The Expressive Arts invite the Client into the imaginal, allowing for a new reality to be created, shaped and defined, in which a difficulty, an event, a feeling or a pattern can have its own space to exist outside the body and psyche of the Client. When we create space to put down the things that burden us, we can begin to explore what is at the root. And in that space of the imaginal, we may find a heightened ability to transform deeply impacting issues that have felt stuck for a long period of time.

Counselling is included in all Expressive Arts Therapy sessions, and Expressive Arts may be included and explored in Counselling sessions.
